Burnley’s impressive nine-match winning run came to an end on Monday afternoon, as they fell to a 3-2 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.
Tommy McDermott opened the scoring for the Clarets in the first-half with a fine solo effort, before goals from Devlan Moses and Rio Shipston gave the hosts the lead heading into the final 10 minutes at the Middlewood Training Ground.
The Clarets responded, as Joe Westley then struck home the equaliser with minutes left on the clock, but Wednesday then sealed the win in stoppage time through Moses and ensured a first loss in 10 matches for Burnley.
Andy Farrell made five changes from the side that beat Blackburn Rovers on Friday as Lewis Forshaw, Joao Mendes, Alex Healy-Byrne, McDermott and Westley came back into the XI.
Following a bright start from the Clarets, the visitors had the ball in the back of the net just 10 minutes in, but it was ruled out for a narrow offside.
However, just minutes later Burnley did break the deadlock through McDermott’s fine finish.

A dangerous Tweedy cross into the area could only be cleared out to the edge of the box and into the path of McDermott, with the midfielder drifting past his man and weaving into the area past two more Wednesday defenders, before coolly firing home to give the Clarets the lead.
Midfielder Joe Bauress nearly added a second for Burnley shortly after, as his stinging effort heading for the top corner had to be tipped over the crossbar by Killian Barrett.
Farrell’s side were dominating with half-an-hour played in Yorkshire and came close to another goal when Brandon Ly saw his strike from range lifted just over the target.
Wednesday’s first chance of the game came with just over 10 minutes left of the half, as former Claret loanee Nathaniel Chalobah rose highest at a corner, but Westley was there on the line to deny the Owls’ first team midfielder an equaliser.
Despite a handful of efforts from the Clarets to extend the lead, the away side went into the break with a one goal advantage.
With the hour mark approaching and Wednesday starting the second-half brightly, Farrell made a triple change as Mendes, Tweedy and Bauress all made way for Kamarni Ryan, Basilio Socoliche and Lewis Richardson.

The hosts were applying the pressure and Healy-Byrne was called into action to block a fizzing cross, before Lewis Forshaw had to push an effort wide for a corner.
Wednesday’s persistent pressure then paid off with 20 minutes left on the clock, as Moses was there to pounce on a ball into the area and fire home the equaliser.
The home side then took the lead six minutes later, as Rio Shipston fired in from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.
It wasn’t over yet though, as Burnley looked to respond to going 2-1 down and that’s exactly what they did in the 81st minute.
Substitute Ryan broke down the left and slotted a perfectly-timed ball across the box for Westley to slot home and set up a nervy finale in Sheffield.
However, as the game entered the first of six minutes of stoppage time, Wednesday stole the winner as Moses turned home from close range to seal the victory.
