A positive display saw Burnley U21s start their 2024/25 Professional Development League season with a one all draw away at Millwall.
Will Hugill opened the scoring with a precise finish at The Den, but Millwall’s Henry Hearn struck from the penalty spot 10 minutes from time to ensure the points were shared.
Summer additions Charlie Veevers and Kamarni Ryan were handed their first competitive starts, while Hugill continued to wear the captain’s armband for the new campaign.
Tommy McDermott had the best chance of the opening 10 minutes but was denied by the legs of Millwall ‘keeper Connal Trueman.

The Young Clarets were now firmly stamping their footprint on the game and enjoying most of the ball.
Veevers forced Trueman into a smart save from a 20-yard free-kick and Brad Grant fired a Joe Bevan cut back into the side netting before halftime, but the teams were level at the break.
The opening goal came 10 minutes after the restart when, after Veevers and Bevan both had shots blocked in the penalty area, Hugill slotted home.
Burnley continued to push forwards with Tom Tweedy hitting a post and the coaching team aimed to capitalise on that positivity, with Vernon Masara, Brandon Ly, and Ryan Tioffo all introduced from the bench.

Masara almost had an immediate impact and saw a shot cannon off the bar, but it was Millwall who scored the second goal of the game.
After Hugill was adjudged to have handled in the area, Hearn sent Charlie Casper the wrong way from the spot.
Hugill was later sent off for a second bookable offence and Millwall rallied in the final stages, hitting a post themselves.
However, Burnley’s back line held strong to earn a valuable point on the road against last season’s South section champions.
