Burnley U21s produced a performance full of attacking intent as they beat Coventry City 5-0 in the Professional Development League on Tuesday evening.
A Joe Westley brace gave the young Clarets control of the game before further goals from Tom Tweedy, Alex Healy-Byrne and Enock Agyei ensured the team’s sixth straight win in all competitions.
Andy Farrell’s team were cheered on by a healthy crowd of 766 at Turf Moor and the result sees the team climb to 2nd in the North section table.
There were four changes from the team that beat Wigan Athletic 2-0 last week, with first-team goalkeeper Etienne Greene making a second U21s appearance of the season.
Owen Dodgson and Agyei both played a valuable 90 minutes, as did Han-Noah Massengo on his first young Clarets outing of the campaign.

Burnley threatened right from the off as Westley forced Coventry ‘keeper Luke Bell into a sharp save after just 10 seconds.
An end-to-end start then saw the visitors’ Charlie Finney pull narrowly wide of the right-hand post.
The Clarets were enjoying most of the ball in front of a supportive home crowd and Tommy McDermott was next to work Bell shortly before the half hour.
Westley then broke the deadlock as the clock hit 30. Having latched onto a pinpoint Massengo through ball, the striker finished expertly off a post for his fourth goal of the season.
Andy Farrell’s side were now firmly in control of the game and Joe Bevan came closest to doubling their lead before the break, but the post was the young Clarets’ enemy this time around.
They didn’t have to wait too long for a second goal, though, with Westley doubling his and the team’s tally for the night in the 52nd minute.
Massengo was at the heart of the action again, producing a lung-busting run before being fouled in the area to allow Westley to power in from the penalty spot.
Temporary switch for 20-year-old
Healy-Byrne thought he had made it three soon after, but the right-back was called offside after reacting quickest to a loose ball to finish.
Farrell looked to his bench for the first time just after the hour, with Logan Pye, Charlie Veevers and Tom Tweedy replacing Benn Ward, Joe Bauress and Joe Bevan.
Coventry came agonisingly close to a lifeline in the 66th minute when, after Green scrambled a Rylie Siddall effort off the line, Finney smacked a post from three yards out.
Burnley made them pay for that miss with two headers in three minutes to ensure all three points would stay in Lancashire.
After Tweedy met a Dodgson cross powerfully 20 minutes from time, Healy-Byrne converted a Veevers delivery with similar oomph to score his first goal of the season.
The Clarets weren’t done there and Agyei put the icing on the cake seven minutes from time with a beautifully curled finish from the edge of the area.
Burnley have leapfrogged Hull City in the PDL table and now have 23 points from 12 matches.
Their next outing is the start of their Central League Cup defence, with Carlisle United the visitors to Burnley Training Centre on Tuesday 5th November.
