Goals from Kian McMahon-Brown and Ellis Clark earned Burnley U21s a come-from-behind victory over Barrow in the Lancashire FA Senior Cup on Tuesday afternoon.

Both players were introduced as part of a quadruple change on the hour, and they cancelled out Innes Cameron’s first-half header to book our place in the semi-finals of the competition.

It was a much-changed side from Friday night’s Premier League 2 defeat to Sunderland, with the main story being the long-awaited return of Brad Grant.

The 20-year-old was featuring for Burnley for the first time in 351 days having ruptured the ACL in his left knee, and slotted into the left wing-back role alongside Joe Ashton.

Zach Johnson, Marley Leuluai and Charlie Veevers played in a midfield three behind the strike pairing of Joe Bevan and Kamarni Ryan.

The visitors broke the deadlock thanks to a smartly taken goal in the eighth minute, with Innes Cameron’s header finding the back of the net via the cross bar.

Burnley kept probing in a first half of little goalmouth action, with Ryan and Leuluai both having efforts blocked behind.

Bevan later showcased his pace and trickery to beat a defender but was unable to hit the target.

The young Clarets went into half-time a goal down, and Oli Pimlott replaced Grant in a planned change at the break.

Andy Farrell’s side continued to press their senior opposition and Ryan came agonisingly close to an equaliser in the 58th minute but couldn’t quite get a proper contact on Bevan’s cross.

The quadruple change on the hour saw Ryan, Veevers, Jesse Willliams and Bevan make way for McMahon-Brown, Clark, Noah Adekoya and Benji Wetshi respectively.

Both teams then came close to a second goal of the game from similar set piece situations, with Burnley’s chance seeing the ball beat Pimlott on the stretch.

Farrell’s side did eventually turn the game on its head with two goals in five minutes, the first of which came with 73 on the clock.

It was McMahon-Brown who reacted sharply in the box to control Clark's shot and finish coolly into the bottom right corner.

McMahon-Brown then turned provider with some excellent hold-up play and a smart flick into the path of Clark, who smacked the ball in off the left-hand post with his left foot.

Burnley saw out the rest of the game without much incident of note, with the five at the back providing a solid rear-guard action.

Their next game is against Chelsea in Premier League 2 on Sunday 5th October.
