A Tommy McDermott strike from range, combined with excellent levels of energy and desire, earned Burnley U21s a one all draw with Fulham at the County Ground in Leyland.
The midfielder scored his first goal for the Club since joining from Port Vale last week as the Clarets ended their Premier League Cup campaign at the group stage.
Burnley started the game with intent as Will Hugill’s driving run earned a corner on three minutes, which Logan Pye met with his head only to be denied by a flying save.
Both teams were ready to battle on a cold Monday night in Leyland, and Burnley were more than up to the task against the Group G table toppers.
The Clarets broke the deadlock on 35 minutes through new addition McDermott, who unleashed a curling left-footed effort from range that arrowed into the top left corner.
Unfortunately the lead lasted just four minutes, however, as Fulham’s Caelen Avenall rose highest to head the ball past Charlie Casper.
Manager Andy Farrell freshened things up at half-time, introducing Renaldo Torraj and U18s winger Oli Pimlott, but the match offered little in the way of goal-mouth action until 65 minutes.
Firstly, Casper was on hand to push away a powerful Adrion Pajaziti effort before McDermott took aim again at the other end, but this time could only find the goalkeeper’s legs.
The young Clarets continued to press their strong and physical opponents, with 16-year-old Brandon Pouani playing 85 minutes in the forward line.
Captain Will Hugill almost stole the headlines with the last kick of the game but could only find the side netting after meeting a cut-back from the byline.
