Burnley U21s beat Pogon Szczecin Reserves 3-1 on Friday afternoon, with Benn Ward and summer addition Kamarni Ryan on target in Poland.
The fixture was a good test for Andy Farrell’s side ahead of the new season, with the Polish top-flight side fielding several senior players.
In a first half of few chances, midfielder Tom Tweedy had a close-range header ruled out for offside and Joe Bevan worked the opposition goalkeeper with a stinging strike.
Ward’s goal came four minutes before the break, with the centre-back heading in a Tommy McDermott corner at the back post.
Lewis Richardson and Joe Ashton were introduced at the break and the second goal came eight minutes later when a Pogon defender diverted the ball into his own net.
Farrell rotated his squad on the hour with goalkeeper Jon Ander Vilar Robinson, Ryan, Vernon Masara, Brandon Ly, Charlie Veevers and a trialist all introduced for valuable minutes.
Ryan scored soon after, reading a pass well to intercept and finish.
Burnley pushed forwards right until the very end, with left-back Ashton close to adding a fourth in the final stages when his shot went wide off a post.
The U21s will remain in Poland until Sunday afternoon, when preparations for their opening Professional Development League game against Millwall will continue in England.
