A Burnley U21s side faced Lech Poznan B on Tuesday afternoon, with a well-taken finish from our Polish opposition proving to be the difference between the two sides.

Taking place at the Clarets’ base in Opalencia, the friendly was an opportunity for manager Andy Farrell to get valuable minutes into the legs of a vast range of players.

The starting XI consisted of mostly the team’s older and more experienced players, with second-year professional Lewis Forshaw keeping goal and Joe Westley leading the line.

Joe Ashton wore the captain’s armband at the heart of the defence, while Tom Tweedy and Kamarni Ryan took the two wide berths further forwards.

Forshaw produced a smart save in the opening five minutes and after the Clarets grew into the game, Tweedy tested the Lech ‘keeper with a powerful strike from the edge of the area.

There were two substitutions at the half-time break, with Felix Chester coming on to keep goal and Noah Adekoya slotting in at centre-back.

Chester immediately proved his worth with a reactionary save low to his right and Westley had an effort at the other end soon after.

However, Lech took the lead with less than an hour on the clock through a perfectly-placed effort into the top left corner.

Farrell made nine changes in the 60th minute, with a mixture of second-year scholars and first year professionals coming on to freshen things up.

The young Clarets dominated the play for the remainder of the game but, despite creating numerous openings, were unable to find an equaliser.
