FA Youth Cup reaches fourth round

Burnley U18s continue their FA Youth Cup campaign with a trip to Norwich City on Monday night, which kicks off at 7pm.

The young Clarets head into this fourth-round match in positive form, having won their last four outings in all competitions.

Tony Philliskirk’s team’s last match was an emphatic 5-2 victory over Leeds United before Christmas, in which James Lewis scored the only Clarets goal of the first half.

Our scholars turned on the style after the break, though, with Braidin Derbyshire, Corey King, Luca Scanlon and Destiny Okonkwo all finding the back of the net.

A scheduled trip to Sunderland last weekend was postponed because of the cold weather conditions, so after 10 matches the young Clarets sit 11th in the 14-team U18 Premier League North table.

Wolverhampton Wanderers were our third-round opponents in the FA Youth Cup, when goals from Kian McMahon-Brown and Dylan Morison secured progression.

Norwich City have had a mixed first half of their season in the South section, winning one and drawing four of their 13 fixtures to date.

The Canaries welcomed Stoke City to Carrow round in the third round of the FA Youth Cup and were a goal down at the break thanks to Elliot Fearn’s well-placed header.

Backed by their home supporters they fought back, though, with Rio Mundle restoring parity before Finlay Corke won it from the penalty spot with 15 minutes to play.

Since that match they’ve lost all three outings in league competition, the latest of which was a 4-2 reverse at West Ham United last weekend.

The East Anglians are managed by Greg Crane and will be aiming to at least match their run of last season, that saw them make the fifth round before losing to West Bromwich Albion.
