U18S PREVIEW: BURNLEY V SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

Young Clarets welcome Owls in league action

2024-02-24T07:00:00.000Z

Young Clarets head to the capital

This Saturday afternoon, catch Burnley's U18s as they take on Sheffield Wednesday in the Professional Development League at the Burnley Training Centre (2pm kick-off).

Following a goalless draw against Sheffield United in south Yorkshire last weekend, Tony Philliskirk's squad are ready to return to action.

Despite early opportunities from Lucas Wane and Benji Wetshi, the Blades' defence held strong during the 90.

Clarets goalkeeper Lewis Forshaw came through with some crucial saves too, particularly against Sam Aston's venomous strikes, ensuring both teams walked away with a point. The result leaves Burnley fourth in the league table.

Young Clarets share points with Owls

Saturday's opponents trail behind Burnley in sixth, securing eight wins, three draws and four losses since the start of the season.

The Owls were beaten 1-0 by local rivals Sheffield United in their last league outing, so will be keen to bounce back.

The reverse fixture ended in a 1-1 draw back in November. Carlos Rodrigues gave Wednesday the lead with a close-range finish in the 41st minute, Benji Wetshi reacted quickest after a Zach Johnson free-kick had hit a post to slot home the equaliser.

Supporters are welcome to attend this fixture for free. If you can’t make it, you can follow live updates on X @ClaretsAcademy and read a match report after the final whistle on burnleyfc.com.
