An East Lancashire derby is up next for our U18s, with a place in the semi finals of the FA Youth Cup at stake.

The team have enjoyed a near flawless run in this competition to date and will be keen to keep that going in front of what is expected to be a healthy crowd at Ewood Park.

Tony Philliskirk’s team started their journey with a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, before recording an emphatic 5-1 triumph at Norwich City.

In the last 16 stage came another 2-0 victory over Charlton Athletic, in which Corey King and James Lewis found the back of the net in Leyland.

The Academy schedule has been particularly hectic of late, meaning various players have had to deputise in different fixtures.

As such, the U18s’ last official outing was a defeat at home to Everton on Saturday morning.

Blackburn Rovers also operate a category one academy, meaning they compete in the U18 Premier League.

Their youngsters were able to record a 3-1 victory over Derby County at the weekend, meaning they now sit 7th in the 14-team standings.

Blackburn’s FA Youth Cup campaign started with a 2-1 victory over Southampton in the third round, in which Harvey Higgins netted a 96th-minute winner.

Then came an emphatic 8-1 victory over Coventry City that included a four-goal haul for Valentin Joseph, and the young striker scored both goals in a subsequent last 16 victory over Swansea City.

These two teams have met twice in the league this season, with our trip to Brockhall ending 2-2 in August.

Luca Scanlon’s free-kick opened the scoring and Brandon Pouani made it two, but Joseph scored a late brace to ensure the points were shared.

Philliskirk’s side then recorded a 6-0 victory at Burnley Training Centre in February, in which Braidin Derbyshire netted a brace before half-time.

King scored shortly after the restart, before Lewis scored a double of his own and Fabio So completed the rout in the final 10 minutes.
