Burnley U18s contested their first friendly of this week’s pre-season training camp on Tuesday afternoon.
Ekstraklasa side Zaglebie Lubin’s youth team were the opponents, and the Polish outfit ran out 2-0 winners with a goal in each half.
With the majority of his U18s playing 30 minutes of yesterday’s U21s friendly against Lech Poznan B, manager Tony Philliskirk fielded his first-year scholars from the off.
The side also included the two U16s who have made the trip to Opalencia – right-back Tadi Murwira and central midfielder Archie Lorimer.
Zaglebie took a 27th-minute lead and that seemed to kick the young Clarets into life, with winger Vishon Masara looking lively on the left and striker Destiny Okonkwo heading narrowly wide.
Callum Feeney replaced Harry Grimshaw in goal in a planned half-time change and Philliskirk’s side restarted with added intensity.
However, our opponents doubled their lead just before the hour and every outfielder was replaced straight afterwards.
Those introduced included first-year scholar Luca Scanlon and he looked lively from the off, pulling a couple of efforts just the wrong side of the post.
In the remaining minutes Burnley hit the bar three times, with Fabio So, George Brierley and Brandon Pouani all rattling the woodwork.
However, they were unable to work their way back into the match and attention now turns to Saturday’s test against Lech Poznan U18s.
