Kian McMahon-Brown netted four goals of the highest quality as Burnley U18s beat their Norwich City counterparts 5-1 to book their place in the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup.

Substitute Braidin Derbyshire was also on the scoresheet as the young Clarets eased past their opponents under the lights at Carrow Road.

Tony Philliskirk named the same XI that started against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the last round of this competition, with Connor Edwards in goal and McMahon-Brown leading the line.

Dylan Morison, who scored against Wolves back in December, was part of a nine-strong substitutes bench alongside striking duo Derbyshire and Destiny Okonkwo.

Burnley dominated the early running, with Fabio So’s running and Luca Scanlon’s creativity causing problems.

Their first shot at goal didn’t come until the 23rd minute, though, when So hooked Brandon Pouani’s corner over at the near post.

At the other end Edwards had to palm away Benjamin Tree’s powerful effort and Corey King produced an excellent last-ditch tackle, before the Clarets took the lead with 35 on the clock.

Good pressing forced a defensive error and after McMahon-Brown was tripped, the number nine dusted himself down and confidently picked out the bottom left corner from 12 yards.

The rest of the first half passed without incident and Philliskirk’s side continued their momentum after the break, scoring twice in a five-minute spell.

Both came from McMahon-Brown and after a smart chest and finish from close range, the striker’s hat-trick was complete with another fine finish after a smooth drop of the shoulder to beat his man.

The Canaries were reduced to 10 men shortly after the hour as substitute Jake Glossop was dismissed for a bad tackle on Pouani, who was replaced by James Lewis as result.

That seemed to spark Norwich into life, though, and Finlay Corke rose highest to make it 3-1 with his head in the 69th minute.

Another change saw Morison replace So before McMahon-Brown tapped in his and the team’s fourth after excellent pressing and selflessness from George Brierley.

Derbyshire replaced McMahon-Brown with seven minutes remaining and after Lewis smacked a post, it was our number 18 who latched onto Morison’s through ball to finish one on one.

Captain Troy Savage made way for Anwar Murtesa as the match entered four minutes of added time and Philliskirk’s side saw out the final stages with ease to record an emphatic victory.

The Clarets will now host Charlton Athletic in the fifth round, with the tie set to be played by Saturday 21st February.
