Burnley U18s secured a crucial 3-2 victory over Crewe Alexandra in the Professional Development League on Saturday afternoon.
Following the FA Youth Cup clash with Bristol City earlier in the week manager Tony Philliskirk rotated his squad, giving starts to several first-year scholars.
The game began with both teams evenly matched in possession at the Burnley Training Centre, but Crewe had the first opportunity as Rhys Allport weaved through the Clarets defence before firing over.
Oli Pimlott then launched a counter-attack, delivering a precise cross into the box for Adam Abbas whose controlled touch was denied by Crewe goalkeeper Mikolaj Lenarcik.
Despite Allport's continuous close-range shots, Clarets 'keeper Jon Vilar Robinson remained alert to successfully make back to back saves.
It was Pimlott who broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute with a powerful corner that curled past Crewe's defence to find the back of the net.
After half-time, Crewe's Muhamed Jatta capitalised on a rebound despite Vilar Robinson's best efforts from an Allport shot to draw the visitors level.
Frankie McMahon-Brown later made an impressive run and unleashed a powerful shot from the edge of the box, but the ball slammed against the crossbar.
Two goals in three minutes put the Clarets firmly in control. Firstly, Ben Jordison linked up with Vernon Masara to find space and slot into the bottom corner. Then, substitute Callum West found his way into open space in the box and calmly tapped the ball home, leaving Crewe's 'keeper no chance.
In a busy second 45 Lewis Nolan completed the scoring by squeezing the ball between Vilar Robinson and the near post from close-range with 13 minutes remaining.
The win sees Burnley climb to 5th in the PDL North table with 26 points from 17 matches.
Tony Philliskirk's squad are back in action on Tuesday, when they welcome Oxford City to Lancashire in the quarter-finals of the Professional Development League Cup.
