Burnley U18s suffered their first defeat of the 2025/26 league season on Saturday, with Liverpool winning 6-1 at Gawthorpe.
George Brierley scored in an even first half that finished all-square, but the Reds ran away with it thanks to five unanswered goals after the break
There were two changes from the side that started the team’s last league fixture at Blackburn Rovers, with Albert Blackie replacing the suspended Corey King in defence.
Brierley replaced Warren Taylor, who scored in the Premier League Cup midweek, in the attacking midfield role, and took the captain’s armband.

The visitors took the lead after just two minutes, when Finn Inglethorpe slid through Aiden Yegou to pick out the bottom right corner.
An excellent reaction saw Brierley equalise five minutes later. After Dylan Morison found Braidin Derbyshire with an excellent channel ball, the striker beat his man and squared for Brierley to finish first time.
It was Liverpool who had the better of the chances for the rest of the first half, with Clarets ‘keeper Connor Edwards denying Haydn Murray-Holme and Joseph Bradshaw in quick succession.
The Reds thought they’d restored their advantage on the stroke of half-time, but the linesman’s offside flag thwarted the celebrations.

Two goals in three minutes then gave Liverpool control shortly after the break. After Josh Sonni-Lambie scored from the penalty spot, Bradshaw netted from close range.
Sonni-Lambie converted DJ Esdaille’s cutback to make it 4-1 on the hour and Clarets boss Tony Philliskirk turned to his bench soon afterwards.
Taylor and James Lewis replaced Derbyshire and Blackie respectively but the changes didn’t have the desired effect, with substitute La’more Forrester scoring the visitors’ fifth.
Liverpool completed the scoring five minutes from time when Scofield Dekam slid Bradshaw through one-on-one, and the winger confidently picked out the bottom left corner.
Two more Burnley changes saw Scanlon and Pouani make way for Vishon Masara and Destiny Okonkwo with five minutes to go and the young Clarets kept battling until the end.
They couldn’t make another dent in the Liverpool defence, though, and Philliskirk’s side head into the international break on the back of a defeat.
