Burnley U18s’ four-game Professional Development League unbeaten run came to an end on Friday afternoon, with the Clarets losing 2-1 to Barnsley.
The home team scored at the start of both halves before substitute Adam Abbas netted with three minutes to play, but it wasn’t enough to prevent defeat.
Tony Philliskirk named a much-changed line-up from the draw at Sheffield Wednesday, with several U17s players given the chance to play.
Jon Vilar Robinson, Noah Adekoya and Joe Ashton were introduced in defensive positions, with Marley Leuluai and Logan Carlin coming into centre midfield and Benji Wetshi leading the line.

The home team broke the deadlock after just two minutes through Jonathan Bland, who converted from close range after an in-swinging corner caused trouble in the penalty area.
Burnley grew into the game as the half progressed, with Dylan Sime working goalkeeper Trent Carter-Rogers and wingers Oli Pimlott and Lucas Wane using their pace and skill to worry their full-backs.
Barnsley’s’ Rafael Monteiro had arguably the best chance of the half on 38 minutes, however, but could only shoot straight at Vilar Robinson.
The Reds than replicated their first half feat, scoring two minutes after the restart. A free-kick was whipped in from the right and Vimal Yoganathan picked out the bottom right corner with a header.

Oli Pimlott then found the side netting before Lucas Wane had the ball in the back of the net but was adjudged to have been offside.
Philliskirk shuffled his pack by introducing Brandon Ly, Zach Johnson and Abbas, with Ly appearing for the first time since suffering a stress fracture in his back during the FA Youth Cup victory over Birmingham City in December.
Abbas was able to set up a competitive finish by following up a teammates' effort to score from close range with 87 minutes on the clock but, despite their best efforts, the young Clarets were unable to work the Barnsley ‘keeper further.
The U18s are next in action on Saturday 16th February, welcoming Hull City to the Burnley Training Centre for a 12:30pm kick-off.
