Tony Philliskirk’s U18s began their season with a point, as they drew 1-1 with Charlton Athletic in the Professional Development League at CAFC Training Ground.
The Young Clarets fell behind to a Micah Mbick penalty on 26 minutes, before striker Adam Abbas netted after closing down a Charlton defender, 12 minutes from time.
Jon Ander Vilar Robinson started in goal for Burnley, with Jack Bates partnering Noah Adekoya at the back.
Ben Jordison and Abbas both made their first league starts for the Clarets.
First Half
It was a quiet start to the game, with a couple of dangerous Lucas Wane crosses the only real chances for either side until Adekoya hooked wide after Charlton stopper Jude Sadler spilt an Oliver Sweeney free kick.

Despite the Clarets having the better of the ball and chances, it would be the hosts that took the lead through Mbick.
After good work of Brook Myers forced Vilar Robinson into a save two minutes earlier, Mbick was brought down in the area and picked himself up to hammer a spot kick into the bottom corner.
In a first half where chances were few and far between, Jack Rogers would have the Clarets only real chance of the remainder of the opening 45, driving a shot low towards goal, that was deflected wide.
Second Half
The Addicks started the second half the stronger of the two sides, with Myers doing well to work space once more and pull another save out of the impressive Vilar Robinson.
The Burnley stopper was called into action once more, pulling off a game-changing save one-on-one after Ibrahim Fullah broke in behind the Clarets backline.

Two quick chances followed for Philliskirk’s side as substitute Adam McCoy won the ball high up the pitch and saw his shot kept out by Sadler, before Wane did well to cut back for Logan Carlin, who hammered a ferocious strike towards goal which was again stopped by the Charlton ‘keeper.
Abbas then hooked a shot wide but wouldn’t make the same mistake a minute later as he charged down an Addicks defender before slotting calmly past Sadler into the bottom corner.
Immediately following the goal, the Clarets were almost in front, when Callum West played a pinpoint pass through to Carlin, who’s low effort could only find the outside of the post.
That proved to be the last action of the game, as the points were shared.
The Young Clarets are back in action next Saturday – 19th August - as they welcome Millwall to the Burnley Training Centre in the Professional Development League.
