Burnley U18’s drew 2-2 when they welcomed Coventry City to the Burnley Training Centre in Professional Development League action.
The Sky Blues took the lead after 20 minutes after Elliott Betjemann’s free kick found the top corner and went into the break in front.
Gabriel Otegbayo headed the Clarets level five minutes into the second half before Rohan Vaughan hammered in a penalty to give the hosts the lead.
Betjemann then struck from an indirect free kick to grab the leveller and secure a point for the visitors.
Tony Philliskirk made three changes to the side that played in the friendly defeat to Cornell University, with half-time substitute in that game Noah Adekoya coming in from the start in place of Jack Bates.
Rohan Vaughan and Joe Ashton also returned to the 11 to replace Dylan Sime and Sonny Pickup, and there were places on the bench for U16s Vernon Masara and Adam McCoy.
First Half
After a slow start to the game, it was the Clarets who almost took the lead on 16 minutes when Ashton broke to the byline and crossed to Jack Rogers whose header was saved brilliantly by Coventry ‘keeper Daniel Rachel.
Despite Burnley coming close it was the Sky Blues that took the lead through a perfectly placed Elliott Betjemann free kick.
A couple of half chances followed the goal, as Conrad Ambursley curled an effort straight at Lewis Forshaw, before Callum West shot over the bar as the Clarets began to look for a way back into the game.
West had another chance go close as he lobbed a cross towards goal that looped just over the bar and Gabriel Otegbayo blocked an Aidan Dausch shot in what proved to be the last opportunity of the opening 45.
Second Half
The Young Clarets flew out of the blocks in the second half and were level within the first five minutes as Ollie Sweeney’s free kick was headed onto the post by Jack McEvilly before Otegbayo pounced on the rebound to net his first goal for the Club.
Youth team will kick-off an hour earlier against Blues next Friday
Vaughan then almost put Burnley in front moments later as he raced onto Ryan Tioffo’s flick on but saw his effort deflected just wide by David Mantle, who made a superb goal saving block.
Vaughan would make no mistake in scoring mere seconds after that chance went begging however, as after Otegbayo was fouled inside the box by a Coventry defender, the Clarets striker hammered in from the spot to put Philliskirk’s side ahead.
Otegbayo then headed wide from a Sweeney corner, before Sky Blues forward Constantine Panayiotou dragged a shot past the outside of the post after winning the ball back from Noah Adekoya.
After a few half-chances from Dausch and Panayiotou respectively, Coventry were awarded an indirect free kick after Forshaw was adjudged to have picked up a pass back from McEvilly.
And in what was the last real opportunity of the game, the ball was laid off to Betjemann who dispatched the ball into the corner to level and ensure that the points were shared.
