Vincent Kompany wants his side to be '100% fit and ready' for the start of the upcoming Premier League season as the Clarets prepare for their top-flight return.
Burnley will be back in the Premier League at the first time of asking following a fantastic Sky Bet Championship campaign under Kompany in his first year in charge of the Club.
After finishing the season on 8th May against Cardiff City at Turf Moor and lifting the league title, the squad enjoyed a four week break before returning to pre-season training on Monday.
The Clarets head out to Portugal on Thursday 8th until Friday 16th for a training camp and then have a 10-day break before returning for the second part of pre-season training on Monday 26th.
The Burnley boss said: "I think it’s normal for us. We had four weeks off and on top of that we also had the winter break. That was another few weeks as well so I think we’ve had enough holiday for the year, for the season.
"I don’t see why we would work less because we’ve won the league first. We’re just looking forward to getting back. The time we’ve got on the pitch with the players now is invaluable to us.
"It’s so important. We’ve got a plan on how we want to be 100% fit and ready by the start of the season but there’s also a development side to this that is really important to us."
With several players still away on international duty the squad are training in a smaller group with the addition of some U21 youngsters but Kompany admits there is a benefit to that being able to individualise training sessions.
Kompany added: "It just means that players came in at different times and players are also wanting to get all the tools to compete next season. To be part of the squad, to be part of the team and play as well.
"We’re able to equip them by individualising the sessions, by making sure they get their fitness levels up in time and a little bit ahead of time.
"I’ve always said as much as we can spend time on the pitch the quicker we can make the players better. We want to make use of every hour we can spend out there and as well it gives us the chance to spend a bit more time with the younger players in the club as well.
