Defender Bobby Thomas has joined League Two side Barrow AFC on loan for the remainder of the season.
The Clarets’ teenager moves to Cumbria - where he also had a loan spell with Kendal Town two seasons ago - for the chance of further first-team experience.
Thomas becomes the sixth signing for recently appointed Bluebirds’ boss Michael Jolley, who previously spent three years as the Clarets’ Under-23 coach up until 2017.
“I can’t wait to get to get started,” said Thomas, who is following a path formerly successfully trodden by Burnley team-mate Jimmy Dunne.
“I am excited about getting out on loan and I am just looking to go and prove myself in the Football League where it means something every week and every game for the team.
“I feel like this is the right move for me at this point in my career so hopefully I can come in and it can go well for me and for Barrow.”
Thomas, who will be 20 at the end of January, has made one senior appearance for Burnley so far in his Turf Moor career, which saw him sign a first professional contract in 2019 after being named as the club's young player of the year.
The central defender, who has progressed impressively through the U18 and U23 ranks since joining the Clarets as a scholar in 2017, started Burnley's Carabao Cup tie at Millwall in September and caught the eye as Sean Dyche's men beat the Championship side 2-0.
After featuring in and around the senior squad since last season resumed post-lockdown – as well as playing regularly in the U23s – Thomas now gets the chance to test himself in League Two, with Barrow currently 20th in the table in their first season back in the Football League after an absence of 48 years.
