Battling Burnley deserve their slice of luck to secure first win at the Emirates Stadium and move out the drop-zone
James Tarkowski insists the feel-good factor is back at Burnley after a history-making win over Arsenal.
The Clarets’ 1-0 victory against the Gunners – sealed by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s second-half own-goal – gave Sean Dyche’s men a first ever win at the Emirates Stadium.
A first away success of the season stopped the rot after six successive league defeats at the home of the Londoners.
And Tarkowski was delighted to break the duck as he helped keep a third clean sheet in five games to lift Burnley out of the bottom three.
“There’s a feel-good factor about the place now. I know we’re still low down in the table but that’s not too concerning,” said Tarkowski.
“We’ve been close a few years to nicking a result here, but I felt tonight we did what we needed to do.
“I’ve been part of the ones where they’ve scored two or three late goals in the last minute – home and away – so to finally get a result here feels good.
“Popey made a couple of big saves which he’s always going to need to but we caused them problems and it was nice to get the goal.
“Even when they were down to 10 men people think it’s get easy, but it doesn’t. They’ve still got some top players.
“We’re really pleased to get it over the line and a big three points. It’s been a good few weeks, really.
“Without the City game, the results, and the performances, have been quite good and we’re looking up.”
The Clarets have now lost only one of their last five games and extended Arsenal’s losing run to four successive home league games for the first time in 61 years after the Gunners had Granit Xhaka sent off 13 minutes before Burnley’s winner.
And while Dyche’s men couldn’t celebrate with their own fans, Tarkowski was happy to be playing in front of a crowd for the first time since March.
“It was nice to have a few fans as well,” added the defender, who produced another power-packed performance in the middle of the Clarets’ unyielding back four.
“I know it’s only a small proportion of the stadium but hopefully in the coming months we can get more people into stadiums.
“It’s good for us. Even if we’re away from home and the fans are against us it gives it a little bit of atmosphere, so we’re looking forward to getting fans back – especially at our place.
“Hopefully we’ll soon have fans back at Turf Moor and turn into a fortress like it’s been for the past few years.”
