The sides have met once before in the competition, where the Clarets beat Shrewsbury Town 5-0 in a replay at Turf Moor in 1966, after a 1-1 draw in the original tie.

Burnley

Summer signings Luke McNally and CJ Egan-Riley could make their Burnley debuts. McNally joined the Clarets from Oxford United, meanwhile Egan-Riley played in the competition for Manchester City in a 6-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers last season.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson was back in the matchday squad against Blackpool on Saturday and he could feature in the Carabao Cup tie.

Defender Ian Maatsen will start a three-match ban after his sending off against Blackpool, where he will return the squad against West Brom next Friday.

Ashley Westwood remains a long-term absentee with an ankle injury.

Shrewsbury Town

Summer signing Aidan O’Brien is not available after a recent hip operation.

Former Exeter City striker Ryan Bowman returned to action on Saturday. He might start against Burnley.

Goalkeeper Marko Marosi studied at Burnley College and previously played for Barnoldswick Town. He has been Town’s number one this season.

Ex-Blackburn Rovers winger Elliott Bennett hasn’t played for the Shrews this season. He had minor ankle surgery in the summer.

Northern Ireland defender Tom Flanagan scored for Sunderland in their 3-1 EFL Cup win at Turf Moor in 2019. He is set to feature in a three-man defence.
