Magpies boss Eddie Howe confirmed in Friday's press conference that Swiss defender Fabian Schar would miss the remainder of the campaign with a hamstring injury.
Howe also stated that former Claret Kieran Trippier is ruled out for Saturday's trip to Lancashire, but goalkeeper Nick Pope has trained this week after missing the last few months with a shoulder issue and the shot-stopper could return to the travelling squad to Turf Moor for the first time since leaving in the summer of 2022.
The former Burnley boss also told the media that both Joelinton and Miguel Almiron returned to training this week for United and a decision is to be made on whether the pair will feature against the Clarets.
The defensive duo of Jamal Lascelles and Sven Botman both remain ruled out for the remainder of the 2023/24 season with their respective long-term injuries.
Youngster Lewis Miley hasn't featured since mid-March and Howe confirmed last month that the academy product wouldn't feature again this season for the Magpies alongside Joe Willock who is recovering from a Achilles injury.
