Emma Taylor says that her loan spell with Burnley FC Women is one she’ll never forget, and describes the experience gained over the course of the 2022/23 season as ‘invaluable’.
The defender spent the campaign with the Clarets on a dual registration deal from Manchester United, eligible to train with and play for the Red Devils’ U21s at the same time as Burnley’s senior side.
It’s here where most of the season was spent by the Wigan-born centre back however, tallying 22 appearances across all competitions including 15 in the FA Women’s National League North.

“From a personal point of view, I don’t think this season could have gone much better to be honest.
“I have really enjoyed playing regularly in such a competitive league, and being given the opportunity to play aggressive football which Is on the front foot.
“Burnley have allowed me to play football at a senior level for the first time in my career, and it’s a club now that I’ll never forget because of what it has done for me in terms of my development.
“This season on the whole has just been an invaluable one for me with so many great experiences, and I’ve learned things that I’ll now carry forward into my game permanently.”

Still only 20, Taylor notched two goals for Burnley including a memorable last-gasp winner away against Loughborough Lightning in February.
At the other end, she also contributed to seven of the eight clean sheets kept by Jay Bradford’s side over the course of the campaign.
One of those came in the Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup final against Darwen FC Ladies as the Clarets became the first-ever holders of the regional silverware.

“I feel privileged to have been a part of such a successful season for the club with a great group of girls.
“We only lost twice in the league all season, and won the County Cup too, so the loan for me has been really beneficial in helping me transition from an academy player to one who knows how to handle games at senior level.
“I scored two goals and also got the opportunity to play at several stadiums including Turf Moor in the last game of the season, and that really is a day that I’ll always remember.”
Though Taylor will now return to United and push for opportunities within their setup in the Women’s Super League, she says she’s confident in the work being done here to try and push the Clarets further up the pyramid.

“As I mentioned before, Burnley is a special club. Not many others are putting so much time and effort into developing their women’s team, especially at this level.
“There’s a really good culture and team spirit around Burnley which definitely helps to provide support to players like myself who come here on loan.
“Regardless of who comes and goes, I don’t believe that culture is going to change, and I think that can only be a good thing for a team that next season is going to be giving their all to go one better than we did this year.”
