Clarets defender Charlie Taylor says he’s enjoying his new role at centre back under Vincent Kompany ahead of the visit of Norwich City.
The sixth-longest serving member of the Burnley squad sat down with the media at the Burnley Training Centre on Wednesday afternoon, discussing the switch from left back, the relentless nature of the Championship, and the Canaries.
Taylor on the start to the season:
“We’re obviously a new team still getting to know each other, and there’s a new style under new management. It’s new everything really, so all things considered, it’s been a decent start.
“They [the new players] have all settled in really well. They’re good lads on and off the pitch, and they’ve bought into what the Club is about. We’ve been renowned for having a close dressing room here over the years, and it’s the same now.
“There’s no denying it has changed a lot, but the players who are still here from last season will definitely all say they’re enjoying it.”
Taylor on the draw at West Brom:
“On the night, we weren’t good enough. We know we can play a lot better than that, and we had chances on the break to win it.

“To get so deep into injury time and concede was obviously hugely disappointing, but a draw on the night was a pretty fair result.”
Taylor on his new role:
“It’s going alright. I’m learning every game and every day in training. The gaffer is a great person to learn from, it’s new to me and something I enjoy, I’m happy to keep learning.
“I’ve never played there, and I’m 28 years old now, so it’s a bit of a shock but I’m enjoying it. Hopefully I can just keep getting better in that position.
“It’s different, but with the style of play this season there’s a big emphasis on the centre backs to cover a lot of distance trying to get up the pitch as much as possible. It’s a different style of running, but still tough fitness wise.
“Personally, I just don’t concentrate too much on other factors. I saw myself as a left back and had played there my whole career, but this is something I’ve enjoyed so far and I’m hoping to keep improving.”
Taylor on his newfound partnership with Taylor Harwood-Bellis:
“Taylor’s a top talent. I don’t think people realise how young he is because he’s very mature for his age. Technically, he’s a really good player and I’m sure this season will do the world of good for his career.”
Taylor on the Championship:
“It is tough, it's very relentless, especially in this first month. I don't think it could’ve started any tougher to be honest, it's been Saturday - Tuesday most weeks, but that's what the Championship is all about.
"It's gruelling and tough on the body but we've got a big squad now and we're going to need everybody over the course of this season. It's flown by so far to be fair, but games will continue to come thick and fast.

"We just want to put a good run together and we know that things can change wholesale in the space of a week. There’s no easy game in this league. Anyone can beat anyone, so we’ve just got to take it a game at a time.”
Taylor on Norwich:
“They’re always going to be up there in this division, especially coming down from the Premier League. They’ve kept hold of some top players, and I’m sure come the end of this season, they’ll be up there.
“They’ve got a lot of experience in this league, and won it a few times recently. They’re a strong outfit and hopefully we can be up there with them.”
