Maxwel Cornet's arrival at Turf Moor can be the spark to ignite Burnley’s season, reckons birthday boy Charlie Taylor.
The Clarets suffered their fourth defeat of the campaign on Saturday as Martin Odegaard’s fine free-kick fired Arsenal to a 1-0 triumph in Lancashire.
But Sean Dyche’s side delivered a rousing second-half response as hot new recruit Cornet, who signed from Lyon on a five-year deal last month, was handed a debut by the boss.
The Ivorian ace almost capped a dream start to life at Turf Moor after stinging the palms of Gunners goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and left-back Taylor, who celebrated his 28th birthday on Saturday, said: “Maxwel obviously lifted the place.
“That was a huge boost and a huge buzz for us before he’d even kicked a ball.
“He’s bright, we’ve seen it in training for a few weeks and I’m sure he can have a huge impact upon this club.
“We’ve played well for large parts of the game and come away with nothing. For us, it’s a frustrating one – but obviously there are positive signs there.
“Second half we were excellent – it was frustrating because I think we all feel as though we could, and probably should, have got something.
“We should have at least a point, so it’s frustrating – but I think it’s just about springing a full performance for 90 minutes together now and I’m sure results will come.”
On his birthday celebrations, Taylor added: “Obviously a result would have been the best present I’d have got.
“But it’s not happened and we go again next week – I’m sure I’ll go out for a meal tonight.”
Dyche’s side still lie on a solitary point after five Premier League games having picked up a hard-earned draw against Leeds before the international break.
Defeats against Brighton, Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal have dented their progress and the Clarets go into next week’s clash at Leicester bidding to clamber out of the relegation zone.
Taylor is calling on the squad to start chipping in with goals and reckons a result at the King Power Stadium can get their season up and running.
He added: “I think we are creating chances - but that’s not the strikers, that’s everyone.
“Defenders can chip in, and midfielders. I think the goals will come and hopefully we can get a clean sheet.
“There’s no reason why we can’t get anything [at Leicester]. They’re a top side and they’ve been up there for the last few years.
“If we perform like that with the energy and the commitment, the results will come – I’m sure of it.”
