Defender James Tarkowski faced the media on Monday morning, as the Clarets look to extend their unbeaten run to four games on Tuesday night against Leicester.
The Clarets have lost just once in their last seven matches, that being against Liverpool. Picking up an impressive point at the Emirates, and against Manchester United at Turf Moor, was followed by big wins against Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur and a draw at Selhurst Park on the weekend.
Tarkowski on the recent run of results and performances:
“After the Leeds game in early January, we had a bit of a meeting and an open discussion on where we thought things were at and where we thought things needed to change.
“Everyone got off their chest what they needed to say and from that point onwards we just haven’t looked back.
“We’ve gone a bit back to basics, I think we were probably over complicating things a bit and when things aren’t going your way, you sometimes try to have a look at yourself a bit too much.
“Things weren’t going great for us after Christmas, but one loss in seven now speaks for itself.
“So, everyone is on board, and you can clearly see it in her performances recently.”
Tarkowski on the busy fixture schedule:
“We’ve always sort of thrived in them sort of situations, when we came out of lockdown back in the summer of 2020, if you saw our performances and results, they were incredible.
“We were playing a match every three of four days, we don’t mind playing games that often.
“We feel like we’re one of the fittest teams in the league, one of the strongest and we just all want to get out there and play games.”
Tarkowski on the experience in the group helping them through tricky situations:
“Experience is obviously key in situations like this, we’ve got a lot of experience in this side and now we’re playing well and we’re confident.
“So, we just need to continue that from now until the end of the season and keep doing what we’re doing.”
Tarkowski on the enjoyment of keeping a clean sheet:
“We do thrive on things like that, keeping a clean sheet, especially against the big teams, where they’re expected to have more chances and a lot of the ball.
“We enjoy defending our box, throwing our bodies on the line, blocking the shots and if they do get on target, we know we’ve got the big man behind us.”
