Things to do in Genk
Genk is industrial city situated in Belgium and, as the city sits on the Kempen coal basin, it experienced a surge of mining activity in the 20th century.
Those collieries were out of action by the 1990s, but their imposing architecture lives on at the C-Mine cultural centre and creative hub, and the Thor Park, an ultra-modern science and business park.
Genk isn’t just an industrial city though and there’s plenty of nature to enjoy.
Bokrijk is an open-air museum documenting Flanders’ culture and history. With over 150 buildings to explore, with the oldest dating back to 1507 there’s plenty to do in a day!
Genk is also home to Belgium’s only national park, Hoge Kempen. The park has over 200km of cycling trails and 40 walking loops. There are six gateways to the park, the closest to Genk being the space-themed Kattevennen.
If you need to contact K.R.C. Genk for anything whilst you are in Belgium and at the Cegeka Arena, the contact number is +32 89 21 22 00.
