Nathan Collins made a superb Premier League debut in the goalless draw against Norwich City last Saturday. He could also make his Republic of Ireland debut this week, after he was called up by manager Stephen Kenny for last month’s internationals but had to pull out with a minor injury.
The Republic of Ireland sit in fourth place in Group A. Qualification may be difficult and Kenny may look to experiment in the qualifier against Azerbaijan in Baku (9/10) and the friendly against Qatar in Dublin (12/10).
New signings Conor Roberts and Wayne Hennessey are away with Wales who have two World Cup qualifiers both away from home against the Czech Republic (8/10) and Estonia (11/10).
Both Wales and the Czech Republic have seven points in Group E. Roberts and Hennessey may come up against team mate Matej Vydra. Belgium dominate the group but the game in Prague may decide who finishes second.
Roberts hasn’t played for Burnley yet but may figure for Wales. There will be no Gareth Bale though. He is stuck on 99 caps after suffering a hamstring injury.
Hennessey is battling with Leicester City’s Danny Ward for the goalkeeper’s jersey. The former Crystal Palace man is on 97 caps.
The Czech Republic also face Belarus in Kazan, Russia in another qualifier on Monday.
Maxwel Cornet has travelled to join up with the Ivory Coast squad who play Malawi home and away in group D of African qualifying. The Ivorians lead the table after a win and a draw. Those games are played on Friday and Monday.
Striker Chris Wood was in Olympic Games action in the summer when New Zealand reached the quarter-finals before being knocked out by hosts Japan on penalties.
The squad has been made up of players who are based outside of Australia and New Zealand because of travel restrictions.
The All Whites face Curacao (9/10) and Bahrain (12/10). Both games are being played in Bahrain.
Loan star Bailey Peacock-Farrell is looking to add to his 25 international caps. Northern Ireland face two away qualifying games against Switzerland (9/10) and Bulgaria (12/10).
Johann Berg Gudmundsson has pulled out of the Iceland squad who are set to host Armenia and Liechtenstein.
Iceland competed in the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia but their chances of qualification look slim for Qatar. They are fifth in Group J, seven points behind Armenia in second place.
