Women’s team players Helen Seed and Emma Siddall recently took time out of their schedules to learn more about the fantastic work of Burnley FC in the Community’s Foodbank, delivered in partnership with Burnley Together.
The pair visited the site, located in the heart of Burnley, at what is a busy time of year for the vital service.
After helping the volunteers pack food parcels, Seed and Siddall met the girls football team from Water Primary School in Rossendale, one of BFCitC’s partner schools.
The youngsters recently won BFCitC’s Premier League Primary Stars Football Tournament and are taught by Olivia Wilson, a former Burnley player who is now at Stockport County.
Seed and Siddall split into two different teams for a gingerbread house making competition, before showing the children how to make food parcels and guiding them around the centre.
The players also toured the facility and met a variety of key members of the team at Down Town, who provide outstanding services to our community.
“It was a really good morning,” Seed said.
“I learnt a lot about the service and just how important it is to the community, and it was great to meet all the volunteers who keep it going.
“All the children had their festive outfits and props, and it got really competitive.
“You could tell how important the football club is to the people of Burnley too and the foodbank felt like a real safe space for people to meet and socialise.”
Foodbank Manager Nathan Norris added: "We love welcoming the players to the foodbank and showing them the impact we’re making in Burnley.
“Christmas is always a special time to bring the children in and make the most of our community kitchen too.
“This year we held a fun gingerbread making competition and to be honest, both teams did pretty good!”
