Manager speaks following 4-1 win against Stourbridge

Rebecca Sawiuk was pleased to come out on the winning side of Burnley FC Women’s fixture against Stourbridge, despite going behind early on.

Goals from Leah Embley, Aimee Kelly, Millie Ravening and Alethea Paul helped the Claret Women battle back to secure a victory.

And Sawiuk said she was happy with her side's performance in a frantic ‘game that had everything,’ even when they went down to ten players following Mikayla Wildgoose’s dismissal.

She stated: “It was a game that had everything, penalty decisions, red cards, and goals, so it was a good game for the neutral and we’re just happy to get the points on the board and the win for everyone in the dressing room and the fans.

“Stourbridge got the early pen, and I thought Kirstie [Levell] did an excellent job to save the first attempt, and then their player followed it up, so fair play to them for putting one in against us.

“I was pleased not to concede from open play, especially when we went down to ten and I thought we played some of our best football with ten, we controlled it and were really good in terms of connections.

“This team are resilient and together; everyone in the high and low moments will get around each other, and we will move forward into Halifax with the same mentality."

This is the first of three fixtures in seven days for the Clarets, with the visit of Halifax to come on Wednesday night, before a trip to Newcastle next weekend.

And manager Sawiuk says her side is working hard to prepare for those games, adding: “We work hard in training every week, we’ve had two players come on and make their debuts today, which is fantastic for both Lois and Gracie.

“We’ve got a DNA and a foundation that we stick to, and we’ve got our principles and our way, and we believe we can take a game to anyone in this league on our day.

“We’ve not had a game in two weeks, so we’ve been doing our preparation for the next three games for the past two weeks, so we’re more than ready.”
