Rebecca Sawiuk will lead her Burnley Women side out at Turf Moor for the first time this afternoon and has described having the opportunity to do so as a ‘real privilege’.
The Head Coach moved to Lancashire last summer, shortly after the team played at the stadium for the first time in April 2023.
Liverpool Feds are the visitors this afternoon, just as they were last year, and three valuable Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League points are up for grabs.
Speaking earlier this week, Sawiuk said: “Personally it’s a real privilege to be able to lead a Burnley Women’s team out at Turf Moor.
“I’ve heard some of the stories from last year and the chat about this game from the players - they’re looking forward to it too.
“If you think about our league this year we’ve had Stoke City, Derby County, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United all play in their stadiums.
“The landscape has changed and it’s fantastic to see the Burnley ownership group embracing that.”
The game is Burnley’s penultimate league fixture of the season, which has been full of exciting victories and plenty of goals.
Describing her team’s style of play, Sawiuk continued: “We play possession-based football and want to entertain everybody on Sunday.
“When you talk to people in football Burnley Women are renowned for having an exciting brand, and I can’t wait to showcase that.
“Football is a game of momentum so having that crowd roaring us on will give the players an extra 10% and could equally affect our opponents too.”
Burnley are 2nd in the table behind champions Newcastle United, while Liverpool Feds sit 6th with 27 points from 19 matches.
The Clarets edged the reverse fixture by a single goal on the opening day of the season, but the Merseysiders come into this one in buoyant mood following a last-gasp victory over Stourbridge in their last outing.
On this afternoon’s opponents, Sawiuk added: “I think they’ll come here and give us a really good game.
“Their league position and some of the teams they’ve beaten this year prove that they’ll be a good opponent and Leanne Duffy is a fantastic manager.
“I’ve watched some footage and they play really good possession-based football so I think what the fans will get out of this game is two teams that want to play and entertain the crowd.”
