Rebecca Sawiuk is in good spirits ahead of Burnley FC Women’s first home game of the season, against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Women’s National League North, at the Lancashire FA County Ground on Sunday.
The Clarets head into the game on the back of a battling defeat to Newcastle United, and a 3-2 opening day victory against Liverpool Feds.
And after a good week of training, Sawiuk believes her side are ready for whatever last season’s 2nd placed team throw at them this Sunday.
She said: “I feel really positive, we’ve had a good week of training and the girls have worked hard and produced good numbers.
“We’ve had an opportunity to work on our gameplan, and we’ve done some good analysis on the opposition, so we can’t wait to get going now.
“Wolves are an excellent team, and we’re expecting a really difficult test, they’ll be physical, combative, direct, ruthless and militant in their approach.
“I know a lot of the squad here are are raring to try and right some of the wrongs of the game against Sunday’s opponents at the back end of last season.
“These are the big games, and the reason we get out of bed in the morning, and it’s the first home game in front of our fans this season so we are raring to go.”
Sawiuk has seen a number of new signings join her side this summer, with five featuring from the start in the win against Liverpool Feds in the league, and one coming on from the bench in the same game.
And the manager believes that the players are already beginning to create connections that will benefit her side in the long run.
Sawiuk added: “I think a big part of what we do here is about connections, so we talk about central connections, wide connections and building positive relationships with each other here.
“If you look at the second goal we scored against Liverpool Feds, and the first goal we scored against Newcastle, both of those have come straight from the training ground.
“That shows that the relationships between are starting to be built and we’re starting to get some good patterns in amongst the squad here.”
Sunday’s game will be the first time that Sawiuk has led her side out in front of the home fans, and she felt it important to express the importance of the crowd cheering the team on.
The manager finished by saying: “We’ll play better in front of a big crowd.
“We want the fans to come out and support us, so I’m really hoping, as it’s the first home game of the season, we can get that big crowd to come down and really get behind the girls this year.”
