As part of the scholarship agreement to bring him from over from Northern Ireland in 2024, Burnley Football Club can confirm that Troy Savage has now signed his first professional contract.

The one-year deal runs until the summer of 2027, with Savage now becoming part of the U21s squad after a productive second year in the U18s.

Reflecting on the news, he said: “It’s a big achievement for me and my family.

“Since I started playing football I’ve always worked towards signing a professional contract at a club, and I’m grateful to sign it at Burnley.

“It’s been a great two years with different challenges. The FA Youth Cup run was a big thing for us last season, and I loved my time with the U18s.

“Hopefully I can now kick on with the U21s, and I know the boys from playing up with them. I can’t wait for the games and hopefully I can get a lot of minutes and keep improving.”

Savage joined Burnley from Northern Ireland Premiership outfit Glenavon, for whom he made two league appearances off the bench as a 16-year-old.

During his first season in Lancashire he established himself as a regular in the U18s’ Professional Development League North winning side, in addition to eight U21s appearances.

2025/26 saw him take on U18s captaincy duties, a role that he continues to undertake for Northern Ireland at U19s level.

Savage finished his season with a fine strike to complete the scoring as Burnley U18s beat Leeds United 7-4 and Tony Philliskirk’s side finished 11th in the 14-team U18 Premier League table.

Academy Manager Chris Casper added: “It’s never easy to move away from home at such a young age, but Troy has taken it all in his stride in the last couple of years.

“His leadership skills and technical skills are a great combination, and I look forward to seeing how he develops in the coming season.”
