Burnley Football Club can confirm that Dan Sassi has penned his first professional contract at Turf Moor which will run until June 2025.
The towering centre back first joined the Clarets at U16 level from Stoke City, captaining the youth team last season with 15 appearances before spending the second half of the campaign with the U23s, playing every minute of the last eight league games at that level.
Sassi headed the winning goal against Aston Villa for the U23s back in April, and now reverting to U21 format, is the vice-captain of the Club’s side at that level.
Still only 18, the defender has frequently worked in the first-team setup since Vincent Kompany’s arrival this summer, spending pre-season out in Lisbon.
And now extending his stay with Burnley for a further three years, the Uttoxeter-born teenager hopes to carry on his upward trajectory.
He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have put pen to paper on this deal, and to have secured my future with the Club.
“I’ve had nothing but a positive time since I’ve been here, progressing well and learning every day. It goes without saying that I want to continue along that same path.
“I just want to keep focused on my game, keep listening to those around me - especially the staff - and push on here at a Club which feels like home.”
