Jay Rodriguez, who has signed a new two-year contract with his hometown club, admitted it was a 'no brainer' to remain with the Clarets.
The striker spoke about his relationship with the club, the fan base, togetherness, memories throughout his time and the current Burnley side.
Rodriguez on his relationship with the Club:
“It means a lot to me this Club. Having grown up around this area from a young age, it’s always a pleasure and a privilege to represent it, so when the Club offered the contract, it was a no brainer for me. I couldn’t wait to sign it.
“To play for Burnley being a Burnley lad is extra special. To see where the Club has come and where it’s at now, I just wanted to be a part of that.
“Seeing the facilities and where Burnley wants to go in the Premier League is a real pull for any player, but for me, the most important thing is just to represent Burnley. This Club belongs in the Premier League, and I want to be a part of it.”
Rodriguez on the Clarets fans:
“My friends and family are from Burnley. Going on the Turf at the weekend to watch Burnley play is a thing that everyone here does and what I’ve been brought up with.
“Sometimes now I even pinch myself representing my hometown Club. It’s an amazing feeling, a privilege.
“The feeling of having the fans behind you is amazing, and a surreal moment to step foot onto the Turf, the sort of thing that you dream of as a kid.
“A lot of them are my friends and family, and it’s just a great feeling to have the Burnley fans behind you.”
Rodriguez on how much the support is appreciated and the togetherness of everyone connected at the Club.
“Togetherness is definitely something you notice with the Burnley fans; they are always with you. They can see you working hard on the pitch, and they’ll be behind you no matter what.
“The last few games at Turf, we’ve performed well, and the fans have taken to it. They’ve given us that extra kick when we’ve needed it. You know, the fatigue sets in at different times or different moments of the game, and you can hear them backing you.
“At Watford, they urged us towards the end to get that second goal and it was great to give that back to them. It’s a great feeling and they are a massive part of what we’re doing.
“The atmosphere they create is massive for us and we all definitely appreciate it. We want to keep delivering and keep the fans smiling, that’s the main thing for us.”
Rodriguez on memories:
“My first goal against Fulham was a surreal moment. To even get on the pitch and then find myself one-on-one with the ‘keeper putting it in, you don’t realise what you’ve done at the time.
“My dad was in the stands, and he nearly passed out seeing it! It’s just one of the things that you remember for the rest of your life.
“That drives you and takes you onto the next thing that you want to do, you want more of it.
“In that same season, we had the cup run and that goal against Tottenham I scored to bring us back into the tie, a lot of people from Burnley still talk about that as a special time and a special night.
“We got promotion at Wembley, going into the Premier League with Burnley was something you couldn’t write and it’s those moments, the people I’ve met, the experiences along the way that I cherish.
“Seeing them back is always special. I’ve made many memories so far and hopefully I can make some more soon. You’ve always got to keep improving in football and make as many memories as you can.”
Rodriguez on the current Clarets side:
“You look at our squad now and it’s just full of great lads. To be amongst them and be a part of it is something that I’m really proud of.
“It’s just a really nice feeling to have. We’re all together, there’s healthy competition and we want each other to do well because ultimately, we know that if that happens then we’re helping the team.”
