Defender Connor Roberts on full PL debut for the Clarets and Arsenal draw

Right-back Connor Roberts enjoyed the perfect Sunday in north London, after the Welshman made his first Premier League start for the Clarets and helped keep a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw at the Emirates.

Roberts, who joined the Clarets in the summer from Swansea City, had only started for Sean Dyche's side against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup in October before Sunday.

But the Wales international put in an impressive and solid performance against the Gunners, alongside his fellow defenders and goalkeeper Nick Pope.

The 26-year old said: “I haven’t played for a long time; it’s been quite stop start since I came here. But to get out there today and get a start was unbelievable for me.

“Any point in the Premier League is a big point, we have come here after not playing for a while, me especially, so it’s really pleasing for us all.

“We battled for every ball, battled for every header, defended well as a unit and we deserved that, it’s a big point.

“I hope I did the boys in there, the coaches, the fans and the club proud today."

Arsenal had won seven of their last eight Premier League games at home, losing just once, to league leaders Manchester City.

But a resolute defensive display from Dyche's men saw Burnley draw a point closer to the sides around them, with 20 games to play.

“We are at the bottom, there’s no hiding away from that. But the only way is up now, starting from today, fighting for every point and giving our all from now until the end of the season.

“We’re not going to play teams off the park and we’re not going to be the better team every game we play, but we will do what Burnley do and fight until the very last game.

“You have to stay switched on, when you come up against a big club who enjoy a lot of the ball and I thought we did that really well today.

“Defensive wise we were solid, as a back five then the midfielders in front and the two up top, everyone stuck in, and it paid off for us in the end.” Said Roberts.
