Defender relishing returning to former club

Although Connor Roberts is looking forward to returning to the club he supports and where he made over 150 appearances, the experienced full-back is determined to leave Wales with nothing other than three points.

The Clarets travel to Swansea on Saturday afternoon in the final Sky Bet Championship fixture before next week's March international break and Roberts is hoping to head into the break on a high.

Speaking to Clarets+ prior to the trip to his boyhood club, Roberts said: "I'm looking forward to going back there. Obviously it's a really big game for us and I want nothing other than three points, but it will be nice to see some old faces.

"Some people may think I left on bad terms, but I didn't at all. I was leaving my boyhood club and I could have left a few times before I did, but then I finally made the decision to come to Burnley for various reasons and they were a Premier League club.

"It's always nice going back there and I will always be grateful for the club. It will be the second time going back as a Burnley player and I really want to win the game and that's the main focus for me and the team."

Roberts recently signed a new two-year deal to keep him at the Club until the summer of 2027 and the 29-year-old is now enjoying the role of being amongst the group of leaders within the dressing room.

"It's fantastic now, I have kind of grown into it. When I first came it was completely different and was a bit scary to be honest. Obviously I was moving away from home and it was a jump up to the Premier League.

"Since then we have experienced a lot at this Club. Manager's come and go, lots of players come and go, promotions, relegations and it's all been part of the journey and it's part of being a professional footballer.

"You just have to embrace it, you can't get too up or too down and another season like we're having could end up either way, but hopefully it's a really good one."

The Clarets take on a Swansea side under the guidance of caretaker boss Alan Sheehan following Luke Williams' departure last month, but Roberts is anticipating a 'tough' test against City.

"It's going to be tough. It's cliché to say but every game in this league is tough and they all pose their different challenges. I think in the last few games you've seen five of the bottom six all win, so it just shows.

"Anyone can beat anyone, especially when it gets towards the end of the season and some teams need wins more than others and there's a little added pressure in there too.

"Results can go either way, strange things can happen. We're going there 24 unbeaten in the league and looking to continue that."
