Welsh defender looks ahead to midweek Rotherham trip

Connor Roberts insists that he and the side must 'finish the season strongly' as the Clarets close in on their final five fixtures of the Sky Bet Championship campaign.

After clinching promotion at Middlesbrough on Good Friday, Burnley travel to Rotherham United on Tuesday night, knowing that a win could seal the league title if Sheffield United are to drop points at home to Bristol City.

Although Roberts admits the team were slightly disappointed to not win at Reading on the weekend, the full-back says the team must now end the season on a high and not lose concentration heading into the final few matches.

The Wales international said: “We’ve worked all season for this and to be in this position now and I think if we somehow didn’t manage to get over the line now people would say we have had a poor end to the season.

“We need to finish strongly and it’s important that we finish the season how we started it and have something to lift at the end of it.

“We were slightly disappointed to not get the win on the weekend at Reading to be honest, but we have the chance to get back to winning ways.

“It’s another tough game tomorrow at Rotherham, but hopefully we can perform well like we have over the course of the season and get the win."

Everything you need to know ahead of Saturday afternoon football at Turf Moor...

The Millers currently sit 18th in the Sky Bet Championship table just three points above the relegation zone but Roberts knows the Yorkshire will be difficult opponents to face.

Speaking to burnleyfootballclub.com, Roberts said: “I think we know what to expect, they will be resilient and they will be doing all they can to keep us out from scoring.

“Every game in the Championship is tough and we all know that, Rotherham still have something to play for so we know it will be difficult."

Vincent Kompany's men will have another sell-out crowd backing them on the road once again in South Yorkshire and Roberts is hoping for another 'special night' with them.

“From day one at Huddersfield it was a special night and we have had loads of special days and nights since then.

“Hopefully, Tuesday can be another one and it’s another chance for us to try and seal our goal."
