Tony Philliskirk’s side secured a second consecutive win in the league, with a 3-2 win over Leeds United.
An impressive Sam Unwin hat-trick secured all three points for the Clarets on a windy afternoon at the Leyland County Ground.
The Clarets got off to a dream start, as Unwin broke down the left past United right-back Ethan Kachosa, before cutting inside and curling the ball past Harry Christy in the Leeds goal.
The visitors then began to settle into the game and got an equaliser with 15 minutes on the clock, as Charlie Allen, who joined the Whites in the summer from Linfield, fired home from inside the box.
Philliskirk’s side were creating more of the chances and enjoying plenty of the ball and Corey Brennan came close to regaining the lead for the hosts, as Joe McGlynn teed up the midfielder, only for his effort to be saved by Christy.
And just 10 minutes later, McGlynn then had a chance of his own, as Kade Ratchford’s cross found the striker, but Christy was there once again to deny the Clarets a second.
But just before the break as the heavens opened, the home side did have their second and so did Unwin, as the in-form forward broke through on goal one-on-one, before coolly slotting home into the bottom corner.
Philliskirk’s youngsters headed into the break with the lead, but were not taking the foot off the gas, as they came out for the second half.
Just three minutes into the second period, Unwin secured his well-deserved hat-trick, this time finishing a nice team move off and firing in from close range.
The hosts were cruising and could have grabbed a fourth just after the hour mark, as McGlynn latched onto Brennan’s neat pass, before firing just over the bar.
United then came close to pulling a goal back, as substitute Max Rigby rose highest from a cross, before seeing his header denied by Sam Waller in the Burnley goal.
However, the visitors did pull a goal back with 10 minutes to go, as Jimoz Chikukwa rounded Waller and slotted home, to set up a nervy final few minutes to the game.
But the Clarets’ defence stood strong in the final moments and held on to secure all three points for a second week running.
