Matej Vydra’s second-half winner secured Burnley a narrow 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Turf Moor on Sunday to lift the Clarets up to 17th position in the Premier League.
Vydra met Wout Weghorst’s ball just past the hour which proved the decisive moment in the fixture and earned a second straight victory for the hosts.
Mike Jackson made one change from Thursday night’s 2-0 win against Southampton, as Vydra came in for Maxwel Cornet.
First-half
In the early minutes, Nathan Collins did well to clear Raul Jimenez’s cross aimed for Fabio Silva in the box.
Nick Pope was then called into action, thwarting Jimenez’s tame effort after the Mexican had been set-up by Jonny.
Burnley’s first attack forward came through Dwight McNeil, who received possession from Josh Brownhill’s pass to weave into a dangerous position before shooting wide over Jose Sa’s crossbar.

Searching for an opener, Vydra found space following Weghorst’s flick on, with his low strike comfortably saved by Sa down to his right.
Up the other end, Pope made an excellent stop to prevent Wolves from taking the lead. Jonny cut inside from the left to arrow a fierce curled attempt towards the far corner, which our number one pushed to safety.
During an even first-half, both sides had opportunities at goal. Joao Moutinho drove wide of Pope’s left-post from distance, while Jay Rodriguez’s snapshot didn’t trouble Sa.
With seven minutes of the half remaining, Brownhill found McNeil after good build-up play, and the winger forced Sa to tip over his rising effort.

Second-half
Three minutes after the interval, Burnley had the ball in the net. A quick free-kick sent Vydra clear, but the Czech Republic international was caught offside as the ball deflected off Conor Coady beyond Sa.
Bruno Lage’s men from Molineux threatened when Nelson Semedo reached Hwang Hee-Chan’s pass to Nelson Semedo to hit a fierce shot which Pope was equal to.
Jackson’s Clarets were in front on 62 minutes. Weghorst managed to slide a pass across the box to an unmarked Vydra to turn in a right-footed strike which beat Sa and found the bottom right-corner.
Immediately after going ahead, Jackson made his first substitution, bringing on Ashley Barnes for Rodriguez.
As they chased an equaliser in the East Lancashire sun, Wolves’ Pedro Neto saw an effort superbly intercepted by a combination of Charlie Taylor and Nathan Collins.

Captain James Tarkowski was then called upon, producing an excellent tackle on Jimenez.
Weghorst then had a shot deflected behind for a corner by Willy Boly, as the Clarets pressed for more.
Substitute Aaron Lennon, who came on for goalscorer Vydra, was inches from diverting Weghorst’s cross into the net, however Coady managed to concede a corner.
Weghorst’s shot on the turn was spilled by stopper Sa, before Barnes tapped in the rebound, which was ruled out.
Burnley had some late defending to do, with Jack Cork and Collins charging down attempts, while Pope gathered Trincao’s cross.
The Clarets navigated the four minutes of added time to make it back-to-back wins in the top-flight.
