Impressive goals from both Manuel Benson and Jay Rodriguez secured Burnley all three points in a 2-1 win against Bristol City in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday
Benson opened the scoring for the Clarets in the first half with a trademark wonder strike for the fourth consecutive game, before substitute Rodriguez fired the visitors back in front two minutes after Tommy Conway equalised for City.
Manager Vincent Kompany made four changes from the side that beat Blackburn Rovers 1-0 on Tuesday night to seal the title.
Bailey Peacock-Farrell replaced Arijanet Muric in goal with Taylor Harwood-Bellis coming in for Charlie Taylor in defence.
Manuel Benson came back into the XI for Anass Zaroury following his winning goal at Ewood Park on Tuesday and Lyle Foster spearheaded the attack in place of Ashley Barnes.
First Half
The Clarets forced an early corner with eight minutes on the clock when Cullen’s low driven shot was deflected wide for a corner.
City’s first real chance came when Pring broke down the left and picked out Cornick on the edge of the area to curl just wide of the goal.
Midway through the first half the visitors had a promising counter attack but Twine’s through ball into the area aimed for Vitinho was played out for a goal kick.
Foster then had a great opportunity to break the deadlock on the half hour mark but the South African striker flashed an effort wide of the post.
But just three minutes later the Clarets did have their opener and it was that man Benson once again. The winger cut inside and for the fourth consecutive match shifted it onto his left foot and curled it home into the far corner.
Foster than had another chance shortly after to double the lead but the forward’s shot on target was denied by the legs of O’Leary.
Vitinho had the last effort of the half when his fierce strike from 25-yards-out was tipped over the crossbar for a corner.
Second Half
The Brazilian then had the first chance of the second half after latching onto Rodriguez’s flick on inside the box, Vitinho rifled it over the bar at the back post.
Robins boss Nigel Pearson made a triple change with his side still trailing just before the hour mark and substitute Weimann wasted no time to get in on the action and teed up Conway to fire past Peacock-Farrell.
But just two minutes later Burnley regained their lead as Twine threaded a ball into the area for Rodriguez to drill home into the bottom corner and wheel away in celebration with the travelling Clarets.
Conway came close to a second equaliser shortly after but the youngsters' shot fizzed over the bar before Weimann then saw his header hit the back of the net with 10 minutes to play only to be flagged for offside.
