Goals from Wout Weghorst, Josh Brownhill and Aaron Lennon secured Burnley an excellent 3-0 victory at Brighton and Hove Albion to mark Sean Dyche’s 250th Premier League game in charge with a first away win of the season.
Burnley were two up at the interval through first-half strikes from Weghorst, his first goal since arriving in the transfer window, and Brownhill, his first Premier League goal.
Lennon’s fantastic finish after 68 minutes capped off a fantastic Clarets display on the South coast, which secured a superb result.
Dyche made three changes from last weekend’s match at Liverpool. Jack Cork, Dwight McNeil and Nathan Collins came into the side, with Ashley Westwood and James Tarkowski missing out through Covid. Jay Rodriguez was named on the bench for the Clarets.Meanwhile, Graham Potter’s hosts had former Burnley loanee Shane Duffy in their starting line-up, replacing the suspended Lewis Dunk, with Adam Webster also missing.
First-half
Burnley started on the front foot at the Amex and within the first minute won back-to-back corners. Five minutes later, Erik Pieters put an inviting cross into the box but unfortunately no Claret shirt was on hand to turn home.

Burnley’s positive start nearly reaped reward in the ninth minute, as Connor Roberts cut inside from the right to hit a delightful shot from the edge of the box onto the crossbar. The Clarets took a deserved lead in the 21st minute when a clever pass from Lennon picked out the run of Roberts. The Welsh international pulled the ball back to Weghorst to hammer home his first goal for the Club.Brighton’s first shot on target came in the 35th minute when Duffy tested Nick Pope from 25-yards out.Moments later, the Seagulls tried again when Adam Lallana’s diving header crept wide of the post.

Dyche’s men scored a deserved second with five minutes of the first half remaining to send the away end into delight as Brownhill scored his first Premier League goal for the Club.A long ball up field by Pieters had the Brighton defence back peddling, and Weghorst capitalised on their indecisiveness to play a loose ball for Brownhill, and the former Bristol City man fired into the far corner.
Second-half
Burnley began the second half in good fashion with the home team looking for a way back into the game at the Amex. However, in the 53rd minute, Burnley had to withdraw Maxwel Cornet through injury, Jay Rodriguez coming on in his place. At the same time, Solly March and Leandro Trossard came on for Lallana and Jacob Moder.

Neal Maupay had his first chance of the half with 55 minutes played, sending a volley wide of Pope’s post from a right wing cross.Brighton started to create a couple of more goal scoring opportunities with the Burnley defence starting to be tested on the South Coast. In the 67th minute, Brighton made their final change as Danny Welbeck came off for Evan Ferguson. One minute later, Burnley sealed all three points when Rodriguez played in Lennon to smash the ball into the roof of the net.Burnley could have added a fourth when Dwight McNeil stung the palms of Robert Sanchez.
McNeil then had the ball in the net with 11 minutes left, which was ruled out for offside.
