Good evening, welcome back to Turf Moor for tonight’s game against West Bromwich Albion.
Last weekend we secured a hard earned three points against Coventry City. It was another great result to maintain our strong position in the table. Jordan Beyer got the goal in the 1-0 win, his first for the Clarets and in his professional career. Congratulations Jordan!
Off the pitch, the transfer window continues, and we are pleased to welcome Ameen Al-Dakhil who joins us from Sint-Truidense V.V. Upon signing, the central defender spoke about his excitement at being part of the Clarets and his ambition to learn and improve here. Welcome to Burnley Ameen, it’s fantastic to have you on board.
At the Club, we have been recognising International Holocaust Remembrance Day and on Monday I was privileged to attend a talk by Ike Alterman, a 94-year-old Holocaust survivor.
Organised in conjunction with The Fed, Ike shared his story and recounted his experiences, and while it was hard hitting to hear, he’s an incredibly courageous and inspiring individual.
Players from our U18 Academy team, representatives from our women’s team, Club staff and first team players Jack Cork, Ashley Barnes and Jay Rodriguez attended the talk, and we are all grateful to The Fed and Ike for sharing his story with us.
This past week, the Club has also been supporting the EFL’s Week of Action, a league-wide, annual celebration of the work of EFL Clubs and their Club Community Organisations.
To celebrate the campaign, Vincent joined staff from Burnley FC in the Community at Shuttleworth College, where the charity delivers the School’s Mental Wellbeing Project.
Delivered in seven local secondary schools, the charity’s Mental Wellbeing Workers aim to provide an early intervention to support students who are struggling with mental health issues. Through both one-to-one and group sessions, between January 2019 and December 2022, the project has helped more than 4,000 students struggling with their mental health.
It’s an incredible project, with Vincent and the football club proud to see first-hand the impact it has on students through the visit on the day.
Football plays such an important role in local communities, with foundation trusts helping to tackle some of society’s biggest issues. We take great pride in seeing the Club crest being used for good in the community and commend the charity for the positive work they carry out day to day in the town.
Back to tonight’s game, this is the first time this season that we’ve enjoyed a Friday night home fixture at Turf Moor. Let’s get the weekend off to a flying start and make it one to remember.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
