A message for supporters from the Chairman

Good afternoon, welcome to Turf Moor for today’s game against Reading.

We are back on home turf following Tuesday evening’s victory over Norwich City. What an incredible atmosphere on the night, despite the rain!

Congratulations to Vincent, his staff and the team for a hard earned three points. Also, well done to Jay Rodriguez who reached a landmark of 50 league goals for Burnley, when he scored his penalty to secure us the win.

Today against Reading will be another challenging test, so let’s keep the momentum going, get behind the team and make it another memorable occasion.

I’m delighted to welcome some special guests to Turf Moor this afternoon, Helmond Sport Chairman Philippe van Esch, Technical Director Ari de Kimpe and Hospitality Director William Verkoelen will be joining us from the Netherlands.

Many of you will be familiar with the story of our two clubs and I’m so pleased to be able to host the group today.

Burnley fan Darran Wooller moved to Helmond in 1993 and during his time there, in addition to supporting Helmond Sport, he returned to Lancashire to watch his beloved Clarets, encouraging new friends in Helmond to join him. This soon turned into an annual event and saw a fantastic relationship blossom. Sadly, Darran died in 2014 but the link between our two clubs and fans remains to this day.

Helmond Sport hold an annual Darran Wooller Cup indoor tournament in his memory and the club revealed a claret and blue away strip this season in tribute to Burnley.

To our friends from Helmond Sport, it’s wonderful to have you with us today.

A little while back I mentioned that we were launching a new programme called The Hive, an exciting initiative that offers those looking to start a career in the sports industry, the opportunity to learn more about a wide range of areas, here at the club.

We received a fantastic number of applications, which staff have been working through, and I’m delighted that the successful candidates will soon be embarking on their Hive journey with us.

Initiatives such as this are so important, and I’m pleased with the response we have received so far. We look forward to keeping you all updated.

As we countdown to kick-off, I want to take this opportunity to wish Vincent and the players the best of luck for this afternoon.

Thank you as always for your ongoing support and I hope you all enjoy the game.

Up the Clarets!

Alan
