Welcome everybody for a Saturday afternoon of football here at Turf Moor.
Only a few days have passed since we were last together at Tuesday evening’s draw against Hull City. It was a tightly contested game and while we may not have picked up all three points on the night, there were many positives to take from the team’s performance.
The Championship is a gruelling league, and as we are all aware fixtures come round fast. I’m pleased with the drive, commitment and effort the team are showing. We are building something special here at Burnley and I’m excited for the season ahead.
This week has given us back-to-back home games, with the players receiving the boost of the home crowd. The atmosphere on Tuesday night was fantastic and I’d encourage you all to get behind Vincent and the squad again this afternoon, let’s make sure they hear us from the first whistle until the last.
On Monday, we were saddened to hear of the passing of Len Johnrose, following a lengthy battle with Motor Neurone Disease. Len made his mark as a Clarets legend; he made over 80 appearances for the Club and was part of the 2000/01 promotion winning season. His work rate and committed style of play made him an instant favourite with fans, and he will be remembered for always giving 100% on the pitch.
Len continued to support us here the Club and in February this year together we introduced the Lenny Johnrose Award in partnership with our Academy, to recognise and celebrate young academy players who show great promise both on and off the pitch. Through this award and all the incredible fundraising he carried out through the Len Johnrose Trust, raising funds for Motor Neurone Disease, he has left a real legacy.
We will be remembering Len at today’s game and on behalf of everybody at Burnley Football Club we send our condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.
Finally, whether you are watching today’s game here at Turf Moor, or from any corner of the globe, I want to thank you all for your ongoing support.
Best of luck to Vincent and the squad, let’s make it a memorable Saturday afternoon at the Turf.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
