Good evening and welcome to Turf Moor for tonight’s game against Birmingham City. I hope you all had a great Christmas and I’m pleased you can join us this evening.
Last week saw us exit the Carabao Cup, following defeat to Manchester United. Despite the result, I’m proud of the squad for the many positives on the evening. Old Trafford is never an easy place to go, and they have quality players that can punish teams. I was pleased to see us really give them a game. We showed encouraging signs against a top Premier League side, and we brought our style of play to a difficult ground. We need to take the positives from the game, keep working hard and move forward.
I also want to make special mention of the 7,200 supporters who packed out the away end and were vocal from the first whistle to the last. It’s wonderful to have your backing and it’s very much appreciated by Vincent and the squad.
New Year’s Eve will mark two years since we took over operation of this fantastic football club, and what a two years it’s been!
From the challenges of the pandemic to relegation, welcoming Vincent and to the present day. Just as is the case over the course of a 90-minute game of football, there have been highs and lows. However, I take immense pride in where we are at the moment and what we are building here at Burnley FC.
Ahead of the anniversary, I sat down to do an interview with the club, to talk about the two years. I covered the togetherness of the squad, the impact Vincent and his staff have had, our women’s team development and the ambition of the academy. I hope supporters found it insightful and agree that it is an exciting time to be a Claret.
Finally, as we approach the end of 2022, I want to thank you all for your ongoing support. I wish you all a Happy New Year and I’m very much looking forward to what’s to come.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
