Midfielder relishing upcoming Premier League campaign

It’s fair to say the last 15 months haven’t been the easiest for Aaron Ramsey, after the midfielder suffered a long-term injury in February 2024, which saw him spend weeks & weeks on a rehab programme in the medical room, gym and then eventually outside, before making his initial comeback in April 2025 as a substitute at QPR last season.

However, despite Ramsey coming on for the final few minutes at Loftus Road to a special ovation, the 22-year-old says is now eager for, in his words, his ‘actual comeback’.

Speaking to Clarets+ this week, Ramsey is excited to get more minutes in his legs over the coming weeks in friendlies and be more than ready to go for the opening day of the 2024/25 campaign at Spurs.

“Like you said, I made my actual comeback against QPR last season, but I’m still ready for my actual comeback.

“I feel like using this pre-season to get to 100% and it will be so good for me for those 6-7 weeks before the first game comes.

“Having a few friendlies, four or five pre-season games is going to be so crucial for me, just like you said mentally and physically will just get me there.

“So yeah, I’m looking forward to it like you said. I came back and now I’m ready for my actual comeback.”

The Clarets have been back in pre-season for 11 days now since reporting on 30th June and Ramsey has enjoyed the first week in camp and being back around the squad.

The midfielder smiled: “It’s amazing to be back with all the boys and after a great season last season for the team, it's good to have time off, come back and be excited for another great season.

“We have had time away, but it’s good to be back together as a group. Training has been really tough, but that’s what you expect from the first week of pre-season.

“You try to prepare yourself for it, but it’s always harder than what you prepare yourself for, in a good way.”

With Burnley gearing up for another season in the top-flight, Ramsey admits the side learnt a lot from their previous campaign in the Premier League and need to stick together through the highs and lows across the year.

“The lads will say, and everyone that was here as well will say that it was a tough year. I think we learned a lot, I learned a lot personally, obviously I went through a big injury halfway through, but even on the pitch and during that period I learned so much.

“I can’t wait to be back on the pitch at Turf Moor and play against some of the best players and teams in the world in front of our fans.

“It’s going to be tough, but we have a great group and we know that we are going to stick together when it gets tough, when it gets cold, gets dark earlier and times can be challenging.

“We know we just have to stick together all the way and as long as we do that as a group and we push and we take it game by game I’m sure we will be fine.”
