Burnley start 2023 with a trip over the border to South Wales, taking on Swansea City at the Swansea.com Stadium on Monday afternoon (2nd January) with a 3pm KO. The Clarets ensured it would be a winning end to 2022 last Friday night with a 1-0 victory away at Stoke City’s bet365 Stadium.
Partnered with a 10th clean sheet of the season (all competitions), Republic of Ireland international Josh Cullen made the difference with the midfielder when he netted his first goal for the Club just after the hour-mark.
Picking up all three points in the Potteries, Vincent Kompany’s side remained top of the table, moving 14 points of the play-off positions and three clear of Sheffield United in 2nd.

Swansea City
This season is Swansea’s 5th consecutive as a Sky Bet Championship side having been relegated from the Premier League back in 2017/18.
Losing the 2020/21 play-off final to Brentford at Wembley, City parted company with now-Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper and appointed Russell Martin ahead of the 2021/22 season in which they finished 15th.
This term, Martin’s men sit 12th with 35 points at the time of writing having played 25 league games.
The Swans’ biggest win of the campaign came last time out at home against Watford, running out 4-0 victors. Joel Piroe netted a brace with both Liam Cullen & Joel Latibeaudiere also on the scoresheet.
The last time we met
Mid-October saw Burnley put an end to Swansea’s four-game winning run in emphatic style at Turf Moor with a 4-0 victory of their own.
On an afternoon which saw goals from Vitinho & Anass Zaroury alongside a brace from Jay Rodriguez, Dutch frontman Piroe was also shown a straight red card late on for a stamp on Clarets midfielder Cullen.
A victory on the road this time around would bring Burnley a first win away against Monday afternoon’s opponents since 1995.
