Clarets host Tangerines in first Lancashire derby of campaign

Burnley welcome Blackpool to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon for the first Lancashire derby of our 2022/23 Sky Bet Championship season, with kick-off coming at 15:00.

Now four games into the campaign, the Clarets have taken five points with the latest coming from a 1-1 draw with Hull City on Tuesday evening. Jay Rodriguez’s goal earned that point, levelling things up on 34 minutes after Ozan Tufan’s opener for the visitors.

With a bumper crowd expected at Turf once again for the visit of the Tangerines, we thank you for your incredible support as you back Vincent Kompany and the team!

Where to Watch?

Tickets are still available to buy online and in person at the Burnley FC ticket office for Blackpool’s visit to Turf Moor.

Due to the EFL’s guidelines, we are unable to live stream the match. However, our pre-match show can be found on YouTube at 14:20.

Live audio commentary is available from 15 minutes before kick-off – 14:45 – with Phil Bird and special guest Ashley Westwood.

Full match reactions and highlights will be available to view after the game on Clarets+* and on our social channels.

Blackpool

Promoted from Sky Bet League one via the Play-Offs in 2020/21, the Tangerines enjoyed a relatively successful first season back in the second tier under Neil Critchley, finishing 16th & 23 points clear of relegation.

Critchley however departed over the summer, taking up a position as the assistant head coach to Steven Gerrard at Premier League side Aston Villa.

He was replaced by Michael Appleton, taking charge at Bloomfield Road for a second time. This term, the Seasiders have started with two wins and two draws from their opening four league games.

Appleton’s side claimed one of those victories on Tuesday night away at Queens Park Rangers, winning 1-0 thanks to Josh Bowler’s goal.

The Last Time We Met

The two sides haven’t met competitively since April 2014 when a curled effort from Michael Kightly at Bloomfield Road was enough to secure the Clarets a 1-0 victory.

Burnley would go on to seal promotion to the Premier League the following week, beating Wigan Athletic at Turf Moor.

However, the pair faced off on the Fylde Coast in a pre-season friendly last July. The Clarets again ran out 1-0 winners that night with young defender Bobby Thomas heading home the only goal of the game.
