Burnley travel to Montgomery Waters Meadow on Friday night, continuing their pre-season preparations against Sky Bet League One outfit Shrewsbury Town.
The game (7pm kick-off) gives Clarets fans an opportunity to see the team headed up by manager Vincent Kompany in person for the first time.
It also comes exactly two weeks to the day that Kompany’s side kick off their 2022/23 Sky Bet Championship campaign away at Huddersfield Town. Team news
Every member of the squad is available for Friday evening’s game barring midfielder Ashley Westwood, who continues his recovery from the ankle injury picked up towards the back end of last season.
Burnley fans will get the chance to see all six of the Club’s summer signings in action – Scott Twine, Luke McNally, CJ Egan-Riley, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Samuel Bastien and Josh Cullen. Members of the U23 squad will also make the journey, including Dara Costelloe, Owen Dodgson, Finn Armstrong and Joe McGlynn who have all signed new deals.
Shrewsbury meanwhile will have all six of their new signings available for selection including Aiden O’Brien, who both Kevin Long and Josh Cullen will know well from their time playing together internationally for the Republic of Ireland.
Form guide
Burnley began their warm-up games with a 1-0 success over Rochdale at Gawthorpe as Scott Twine netted on his first run out in a Claret & Blue shirt. Vincent Kompany’s side then took on Premier League side Wolves at their training ground last Saturday, losing out 3-0. Following Friday’s game, the Clarets will travel to Lisbon for a six-day training camp which will see them play out two further friendlies.
Finishing 18th in Sky Bet League One last season, Steve Cotterill’s Shrewsbury squad have already enjoyed a training camp abroad.
The Shrews spent a week out in Spain before returning home and playing out a goalless draw with National League North outfit Telford United on Tuesday night.
They also take on the Clarets' fellow Sky Bet Championship side Cardiff City before kicking off their league campaign with a trip to Lancashire on July 30 as they take on Morecambe.
Match stats
This will mark Burnley’s inaugural trip to Montgomery Waters Meadow, which Town moved to in 2007.
The pair’s most recent meeting came at their former ground – Gay Meadow – in April 1997, when the Clarets lost out 2-1 in the old Division Two. Paul Barnes was the Burnley goal scorer that night.
Shrewsbury have visited East Lancashire more recently though, taking pre-season victories away from the Burnley FC training ground in both 2018 and 2020.
Town boss Steve Cotterill was in charge at Turf Moor between June 2004 and November 2007, overseeing 169 games during that time.
Brian Jensen is also on his backroom staff in Shropshire as Town’s goalkeeping coach. The Danish former shot stopper made 310 appearances in a Burnley shirt between 2003 and 2013, winning promotion to the Premier League in that time.
In the Clarets camp, there will be a return to Shrewsbury for U23s manager Michael Jackson who both played for and managed the Salopians between 2008 and 2014.
Kick-off
